Faraday's experiment showing induction between coils of wire: The liquid battery (right) provides a current that flows through the small coil (A), creating a magnetic field. When the coils are stationary, no current is induced. But when the small coil is moved in or out of the large coil (B), the magnetic flux through the large coil changes, inducing a current which is detected by the galvanometer (G).[1]
Electromagnetic or magnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force (i.e., voltage) across an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic field.
Michael Faraday is generally credited with the discovery of induction in 1831, and James Clerk Maxwell mathematically described it as Faraday's law of inductionLenz's law describes the direction of the induced field. Faraday's law was later generalized to become the Maxwell–Faraday equation, one of the four Maxwell equations in his theory of electromagnetism.
Electromagnetic induction has found many applications, including electrical components such as inductors and transformers, and devices such as electric motors and generators.

Faraday's Principle of Electromagnetic Induction states that the emf induced in a loop due by a changing magnetic flux is equal to the rate of change of the magnetic flux threading the loop. The magnetic flux threading a coil of wire can be changed by moving a bar magnet in and out of the coil.

Youtube video -- PDF NOTES- download file Physical optics  is also the name of an  approximation  commonly used in optics,  electrical engineering  and  applied physics . In this context, it is an intermediate method between  geometric optics , which ignores  wave  effects, and full wave  electromagnetism , which is a precise  theory . The word "physical" means that it is more physical than  geometric  or  ray  optics and not that it is an exact physical theory. [1] :11–13 This approximation consists of using ray optics to estimate the field on a surface and then  integrating  that field over the surface to calculate the transmitted or scattered field. This resembles the  Born approximation , in that the details of the problem are treated as a  perturbati...
